Shifts
Shifts tie POS activity to the staff member running the till, with opening-cash, break tracking, and a tidy end-of-shift reconciliation.
When to use shifts
Shifts are optional but recommended if more than one person runs your POS. They answer the question: “Who took which sales, over what period, and did the drawer balance at the end?”
Starting a shift
- Open POS and tap Start shift.
- Record the opening cash amount in the drawer.
- Begin taking sales.
Every sale processed while the shift is active is tagged with that shift's shift_id.
Pause and resume
Use pause/resume when a staff member takes a break. POS is locked for that staff while paused; another staff member with their own shift can log in without disturbing the paused shift.
Ending a shift
Tap End shift and record the closing cash in the drawer. ScanLedger:
- Sums all sales made during the shift.
- Calculates expected cash = opening + cash sales - cash refunds - cash withdrawals.
- Compares to actual closing cash and records the difference.
- Writes a shift summary with totals by payment method.
Overages and shortages are flagged as exceptions and surface in the shift report. Managers can add notes or attach explanations.
Shift reports
- Total revenue per shift, broken down by payment method.
- Number of sales and average ticket size.
- Void requests raised during the shift.
- Cash variance (overage or shortage).
- Shift-level leaderboards for staff performance.
Plan access
Shifts are included on Pro and Enterprise plans.
