Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: March 2026

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules that apply when you use the ScanLedger platform. It supplements our Terms of Service and exists to protect our users, infrastructure, and reputation. Violation of this AUP may result in suspension or termination of your account.

2. Prohibited Content

You may not upload, store, or process content that:

  • Is illegal under applicable law (including counterfeit documents, forged financial instruments, or fraudulent records)
  • Contains malware, viruses, or other malicious code
  • Infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
  • Contains personally identifiable information of others without their consent
  • Is obscene, defamatory, threatening, or promotes violence or discrimination
  • Contains child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — such content will be reported to the relevant authorities immediately

3. Prohibited Activities

You may not:

  • Circumvent limits — create multiple accounts to exceed plan limits (scans, storage, team members)
  • Abuse AI features — use document scanning or AI chat to generate, process, or extract data for illegal purposes
  • Interfere with the Service — attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise our infrastructure (including denial-of-service attacks)
  • Scrape or automate — use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service beyond normal usage patterns without prior written permission
  • Reverse-engineer — decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract source code from the Service
  • Redistribute — resell, sublicense, or make the Service available to third parties as a hosted offering
  • Misrepresent identity — impersonate another person or entity, or falsely claim affiliation with ScanLedger
  • Exploit vulnerabilities — exploit security vulnerabilities rather than responsibly disclosing them to [email protected]

4. Rate Limits & Fair Use

To ensure a reliable experience for all users, we enforce rate limits (currently 100 requests per minute for general use and 5 requests per minute for authentication endpoints). Free-tier users are limited to 5 document scans per day. Attempts to circumvent these limits — through multiple accounts, automated scripts, or other means — are a violation of this AUP.

5. Team & Collaboration Rules

If you are a workspace Owner or Admin:

  • You are responsible for the conduct of team members you invite
  • You must configure permissions appropriately for your organization's needs
  • You must not invite team members to circumvent per-user plan limits

6. Enforcement

If we determine that your use violates this AUP, we may, at our sole discretion:

  • Issue a warning and request that you remedy the violation
  • Temporarily suspend your account or specific features
  • Permanently terminate your account
  • Remove or restrict access to content that violates this AUP
  • Report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before or at the time of enforcement, except where immediate action is required to protect the safety of users or the integrity of the Service.

7. Reporting Violations

If you believe someone is violating this AUP, please report it to [email protected] with as much detail as possible. We investigate all reports and take action where appropriate.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this AUP from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
